Daily Schedule: 8:30am – 3:30pm

Our learning day is broken into individual

  1. core skills work,
  2. collaborative quest/project work,
  3. writer’s workshop
  4. civilization/socratic discussions,
  5. Art,
  6. PE
  7. and free time. A. The middle and high school learners also have Apprenticeship work each year.

Do you have a Guatemalan school year from January to October?

No. We have built our own model for the school year. Learners work for 6 weeks and rest 1. We use this model year-round for the 12 months.

School year begins August and finishes July.

Twice a year learners have an extended rest time of 3 weeks: December and July.

Where are you located?

Zona 6, San Miguel Escobar, Ciudad Vieja.
10 minute drive from Antigua’s Central Park.

Is this an in-person learning model?

Yes. However, it can be personalized according to the community or learner’s needs.

Do you have scholarships?

We will begin building a scholarship fund in the near future. At this time, we do not have a fully funded scholarship for next year.

Is there a way to see Volcano in action?

Yes. If you are interested in having your child join Volcano:

  1. First, schedule a one-on-one meeting with Mónica Aguilar, Head of School
  2. Second, have your child join a Trial Week for free.
  3. Last, together parents-learner-school decide if Volcano is the right fit for your family’s vision.

Yes. If you are interested in joining the Volcano staff:

  1. First, schedule a one-on-one meeting with Mónica Aguilar, Head of School
  2. Second, schedule up an Observation Day (our learners are part of the approval of this visit in regards to time, day and guidelines for your participation).
  3. Last, together learner-school-staff decide if Volcano is the right fit for your Hero’s Journey.

 

How many spaces are still available for each studio next year? (2022-2023)

–  Primary Education Studio (Wonder): 10

–  Lower Elementary Studio (Spark): 15

–  Upper Elementary Studio (Discovery): 12

–  Middle School (Agora): 8

–  Highs School (Launch Pad): 8

Will I know my place on the waiting list?

For the quality of our learning experience, we accept a healthy spread of ages; therefore, your place on the waiting list is relative to how many students in your age group are on the list. We are happy to inform you of those numbers when you are on the list.

Can I hold a place for a future child?

Yes. Fill out the I would like a meeting form on our website so we can contact you to our soonest availability and discuss next steps for this alternate admissions process.

Do you have a curriculum?

Yes. We built a Learner-Driven roadmap for mathematics, reading, writing in English and Spanish. Our learners take pride in a self-motivated path to achieve excellence and demonstrate completion and mastery for each of their goals.

We believe that joy+rigor=mastery.

What do you require of parents?

Our parents sign a covenant to be life-long learners and to support their children on their own Hero’s Journeys; upholding Volcano’s key beliefs, promises and vision.

We will never ask for donations or do fundraisers with Volcano parents.

When will your middle and high school open?

As soon as it is organically required by our growing community, or when an external applicant is accepted to join our community.
